  Daughter Going to College this Fall

  wow.

  my first born baby will be going to college in the fall.

  she will graduate high school and spokane community college this year with an aa degree.

  Kudos to your daughter and you! That high school/community college program is absolutely the best. My youngest is doing the same as your daughter. She will have her high school diploma the first week of June and her AA the second week, turning 18 in between. She's headed to a four year college as well, but won't have to do the whole four years, also has been offered some good scholarships. And she hasn't been ruined by the older 'worldly' kids, or the philosophies of men...very open minded kid.

  Watching the 'Apostate' World!

  in south flordia yesterday and apostate found a money bag full of cash in her shopping bag when she got home.

  the cash was in the amount of $3700 dollars, and was the stores cash receipts.

  so said apostate called the store and reported the money, and then returned it.

  Can Witnesses Do That?

  this week is spring break for school children and so my kids are home this week.

  while i was at work yesterday some witnesses paid a visit to my home and tried to talk my 14 year old son into having a bible study.

  when my son politely refused, saying that he could not commit to a study without first asking permission of his parents, they told him that they knew many children who had defied their parents to study with the witnesses and come to meetings.

  The congregation you are dealing with must be exceptional. I wish that were the case universally, but unfortunately it is not. It is very common here where I live for the elders to encourage sisters to leave their unbelieving mates, even more so if the mate is an apostate. In fact, JWs here with unbelieving mates are not regularly included in social activities, are the last picked for car groups. My mother-in-law has been in the congregation over 45+ years, when her non-believing hubbie died they were nice enough to do the memorial at the KH, but only a handful of Witnesses attended-mostly non-Witness relatives and neighbors. One would think she deserved a little more emotional support than that. I used to believe these kinds of things only happend in our little berg, but in talking to others it happens more often than not. Any way you look at it, unethical things happen, people are hurt....I'm not participating in any 'take the WT down' activities and don't have a spiteful vendetta, other than I walked away almost three years ago and haven't looked back - mostly because of 'little' things like this. Couldn't handle the discouragement.

  Can Witnesses Do That?

  Ha! they do it all the time. A former friend of mine would go out to feed her horses - take them to the far end of the field. Underneath her overalls she had on her nice clothes. The dubs would pick her up, study with her, and then bring her back. Another example, Rocky studied with a bud in school whose parents were opposed - they met in the park. More recently, one sister would bring her son's classmate to her house, pulling her out of school without the parents permission. Don't know how they got away with that one. The son went to Bethel, the girl got baptized, the sister left the Borg.
  Just because the WT says 'don't' doesn't mean the locals follow the rules, as someone said - anything for a Bible study....

  I went to a funeral today

  my first outside of the jwdub world and i was amazed at the emotions i experienced.

  about 50 people were there to support the family in their time of grief.

  there was a graveside service for a baby that had died this week.

  It's so sad when babies die. My heart goes out to you and the family.

  But so true, so true, JW memorial services don't memorialize the dead. Rocky's dad died last fall and the talk barely touched on the life and times of the deceased. Went to another memorial just a couple of weeks ago, a neighbor...one of the elders gave a brief talk at the funeral home as she was a life time interested one. Then the family got up and spoke about mom/g'ma. They played a tape of music the family band had recorded. The grandkids read poems. A lifelong friend spoke about their friendship and then read 1 Cor 13 and said it described her friend. It was truly a tribute....BTW the local PO wouldn't let them have the service at the KH, which was prob'ly a good thing since the most comforting words were spoken by the family. Once again, there were only a few from the KH who attended. After the service the church ladies from the church across the street from the funeral home opened their fellowship hall, organized a wonderful meal, and served the family and friends. JWs do not have a clue as to Christlike love!

  Update on AlanF's Daughter

  now that dad has recovered his equilibrium, i just wanted to say a huge thanks to everyone who expressed concern about my daughter the last couple of weeks.

  in the great scheme of things this is a minor matter but it sure affected me!

  i guess my family has been pretty lucky compared to others.. anyway, julie (that's the daughter one, not the wifely one) recovered so fast that she returned to school this past monday.

  Woohoo! that's worth celebrating! Thanks for sharing the wonderful news. Still have a 17 year old at home...can only imagine the stress your family has been dealing with. May it never happen again!

  just when you think your immune to the pain from family members shunning you get a surprise.

  my sister hasn't talked or communicated with us for nearly 2 years.

  in november my mom bought her granddaughter ashley a beautiful doll.

  Venice - hugs to you and your folks. They deserve better.
  Remember meeting your sis's in-laws. She's got a difficult family to break out of, so am wondering if her hubbie is pulling a lot of the strings. You and your folks are better people for persisting in showing love. I know how this really tears up your folks. Am so sorry nice people like you have to put up with rejection. Wish I could make it all better!

  When I was in high school I wanted to join the swim team soooo bad! but of course didn't. Didn't take any of the college prep classes either, just business classes, stuff that would help me get part time work so I could pioneer. When my kids reached high school age I couldn't deny them the privelege of fully participating in anything school activity they wanted. They have done well and am so proud of them. And dontcha know, they haven't been 'spoiled' by 'worldly' association. None of their friends are promiscuous or into drugs or alcohol. Makes a person wonder about all that 'protective' counsel from the WT....

  Would be a little risky telling exactly which congregation we were most recently associated with, but we were in the same circuit as LB, except he was in the city half and we were in the rural half. Mr Rocky has always been in the same hall. I came from the other side of the state but can't tell you where. It might put my mom at risk of losing contact with us (dad is a prominent elder and would cut her off in a heart beat if he knew we went totally anti JW! and my sis's hubbie lurks here, don't know if I can trust him yet).
